The Great Indoors: The Nature of Things

The Great Indoors is a biennual event with workshops, an international competition, and lectures that aim to stimulate discussions on the interior, and which will contribute to talent development and theory in that field. The Great Indoors is an initiative of Marres Projects, Bureau Europa and FRAME magazine, and will take place for the fourth time in 2013. This edition’s theme, 'The Nature of Things', is a study of the material and immaterial developments of interiors within a globalised reality. High-level entries for the competition will come from all over the world.

This week, the new logo of The Great Indoors 2013 was launched. The graphic design is developed by studio WOAU! in Rotterdam.

The call for entries and the latest news about the competition, the education programme, workshops and lectures can be found on the newly designed website, which will be launched next week.

New Programme Director Marres Projects

In 2008, Brigitte Bloksma started as Programme Director of Marres Projects. Now, five years later, she leaves Marres. Over the past years, Bloksma developed Marres Projects and helped to initiate unique projects, including The Great Indoors, Out of Storage and Landscape in Perspective. On March 1, 2013, Bloksma started as Head of Van Eyck Mirror/products and concepts at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. In addition, she founded her own company, ADD+.

The board and staff of Marres regret that Brigitte Bloksma is leaving, but wish her the best of luck in her new position. Pieternel Fleskens will succeed Bloksma as Programme Director of Marres Projects. She is the former Business Coordinator of Marres.

A glimpse of the dynamics within a collecting art institute
Can death, decay and blood indeed be so beautiful, almost seductive?
Consumerist excess and the fiction of economic speculation
Create or destroy
Every bird can only sing what it is able to hear
Health as common good and social capital
How to deal with this new reality?
is the idea of a school still grounded in the locality of a physical environment?
The ultimate symbol of godlessness
Trust me - I'm a designer
We'll be rich tonight!
Without a palace of glass, life is a burden
